Message from the Board
Our fiscal year ending July 31, 2024 saw Arnica Foundation greatly expand our services to help adolescent girls and young women grow into emotionally strong and powerful women. We were able to meet our fundraising goal, and we are extremely grateful to our Donors for continuing to support our work.
In the past year, Arnica Foundation has grown financial access to therapy by providing 24 families with financial subsidies for 527 hours of therapy. This has grown from 10 families and 121 hours in the previous year. With your support, these young women are on the path to become community leaders in whatever profession they chose.
Arnica Foundation is also funding the development of three therapists in the specialized treatment of adolescent girls and young women at Juno House – up from two the previous year. This three year residency pulls together training utilizing Attachment Theory, Emotionally Focused Therapy, EMDR, Interpersonal Neurobiology, and Affective Neuroscience — science – based approaches that are key in the specialized treatment of adolescent girls, young women, and their families.
We are also very proud to have hosted our first 2 day, in-person workshop in April 2024 for 73 local therapists. The workshop was led by Deb Dana, LCSW, clinician, consultant, and internationally recognized author and speaker specializing in complex trauma and the Polyvagal Theory – providing an understanding of how the autonomic nervous system influences the way we live, love, work and guides how we move through the world.
Arnica Foundation also grew our community support with presentations that focus on early parenthood training, emotional coaching for parents, and the effect of technology on the adolescent brain. Presentations were made through Alberta Health Services, schools, Western Cree Family Support and Prevention, First Nations Telehealth Network, and the Werklund School of Education at U of C. A total of 14 community presentations were made to 664 participants. This was up from 4 presentations and 289 attendees last year.
The demand for these services continues to increase. In the Calgary Foundation’s ‘Quality of Life Report 2024’, 40% of students rate mental health as poor/below average. And 51% of those with poor/below average mental health are always/often lonely. Yet 29% of Calgarians don’t have timely access to mental health services and support.
Arnica Foundation looks forward to continuing to deliver on our charitable objectives in the upcoming year. Once again, the Board thanks you for your trust in Arnica Foundation. Your generosity has provided us with a solid foundation to help grow adolescent girls and young women and their families.
